Michael Despeaux came to our meeting last Monday night and led our Internship Workshop with some really great information. He first showed some graphs that showed how important internships really are. Data from the Atlantic emphasized just how critical experience is when looking for a job.
Finding experience as a college students is hard and few degrees require it, luckily, our degree in Public Relations require one. However internships/co-op are just one avenue to gain experience, there are also student employment, service learning, and externships.
One of the best nuggets of wisdom he talked about externships. This is probably the best amount of information that is simple and can help a student build experience and also gain an insight on what they want to do. Contact the Career Services to learn more about this exciting opportunity.
If you have not joined PRSSA, please consider doing so, next Monday, February 2 we will be SKYPing with Lauren Grey.
